RAGAMUFFIN

It's the first summer that the Ragamuffin finally feels comfortable in her skin. No more wondering if she is more of one ethnicity over the other. Her tan skin can finally feel free of the questions. This is the summer she builds a culture for herself. She has tried to cling on to the different cultures that build her DNA, but nothing has felt as authentic as being Ragamuffin.

Ragamuffin (noun);

1. a person, typically a child, in ragged, dirty clothes

My parents affectionately called me a ragamuffin growing up and in a 6th grade spelling bee, that I won, Ragamuffin was the final word I spelled. Since then the word Ragamuffin to me has symbolized freedom and adoration for my childlike spirit. As a kid I didn’t think much about my ethnicity and I didn’t care when I was ragged and disheveled. As an adult I internalize outside perspectives more, and would like to embrace the ‘Ragamuffin’ spirit again. This Spring/Summer collection represents the freedom mixed people should feel in their identity during the summer.
